Midnight thoughts...

Yup, it's almost 4:00am, my daughter just got up to inform me that I should go back to bed that it's not healthy to stay up so late. From the mouths of babes. Once again I'm amazed at how my family keeps up with these posts, even Gramps and Gramps are posting now! So sweet the pictures of your lives.

Alex finished 2nd grade in June and is excited to start 3rd grade in about 2 weeks. She has been working with a tutor all summer and reading with me trying to avoid the summer forgetting. She goes to day camp every day up the road from my office but it's been awfully wet this summer so that has been a bummer. They do go on field trips every week. Alex is now manning her own Kayak, it is so cool to go for a paddle with my cute little lady. She also is into trail riding with me. Steve brough home a lost unclaimed for 4 years full suspension Mongoose kids mountain bike for Alex and we've been having a ball all summer....

On July 7 we hosted our first "Fresh Air Kid", Whitney Greene. She lives in the Bronx, NY. The program places kids from the city with people in the country for a 2 week vacation. We did EVERYTHING COUNTRY. Whitney is beautiful and sweet, 8 years old but going into 4th grade. She is a good friend to Alex. They went to the Museum of Science in Boston, they did a campout in a tent in Peterborough with the day camp group, we all went to Ma & Pa Bell's camp for a long weekend in Concord, VT. While there Whitney joined us for fishing, kayaking, canoeing and roasted marshmellows on an open fire ALL FOR THE FIRST TIME. We also went to a friends farm and the girls milked cows and had fresh homemade ice cream. Whitney left on the 21st of July. Whitney will be back next summer we can't wait!

I've been establishing some planting in my yard trying to give the "new" 3 year old house some color. It is so hard to start from scratch. I don't mean to complain but I got nothing to work with. Mom came over last weekend and brought me tons of lillies, daylillies and black eyed susans, and bee balm....all perreniels as I have a vision of gardens that I can enjoy but not fuss with. I found some shasta daisies and sedum along with an azalea which had been planted at least 10 years ago up along the road, the woods were overtaking them so I relocated them into sunny spots. I probably saved $100 with that find!

Steve has been busy with the police department this summer. He was short one guy all summer while he went through the police academy and has been trying to train a new guy all summer who is young. He is doing a good job but the balance is always hard. Steve and Alex went to camp a couple weekends ago (without Mommy) and had a special daddy daughter time fishing and hanging out.

It has been raining for almost 10 days. Today was the first hot sunny day we've had in a while. They predicted rain for the afternoon but I think God got the hint. We are sick of it!!!! No floods in our area but middle of the state has been hit really hard.
